Install Kora Icon Theme 1.5.9 on Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Debian


Kora is an SVG icon theme with lots of new icons for GNU/Linux operating systems.

To make them display properly, you may need to update the icon cache. A script is included.


Different versions available:

  • kora - for dark themes with dark panel
  • kora-light - for light themes with dark panel (depends on Kora)
  • kora-light-panel - for light themes with light panel (depends on Kora and Kora-light)
  • kora-pgrey - theme with grey folder colors (depends on Kora)

How to Install Kora Icon Theme 1.5.9 on Ubuntu 24.04 "Noble Numbat" / Linux Mint 21.2 "Victoria" / Debian 12 "bookworm"  and MX Linux Derivative System :

Download kora icon theme using wget, open terminal and follow the command :
$ cd Downloads/
$ wget -c https://github.com/bikass/kora/archive/refs/tags/v1.5.9.zip


Give permission user to access the icon file :
$ sudo chmod +x v1.5.9.zip


Extract the file :
$ sudo unzip v1.5.9.zip
$ cd kora-1.5.9/
and copy kora, kora-light, kora-light-panel and kora-pgrey subfolders to one of the following folders:
$ sudo mv kora kora-light kora-light-panel kora-pgrey /usr/share/icons/

/usr/share/icons/ - icons available system-wide
$HOME/.local/share/icons/ - icons only available to local user

After moving is completed, open gnome tweak to change icon :
