Mobian Linux - Linux Distro based on "Debian" for Running on Mobile and Tablet
Mobian is a port the Debian distribution running the mainline Linux kernel to smartphones and tablets. It is available for the PinePhone, PinePhone Pro, PineTab, PineTab 2, Librem 5, OnePlus 6/6T and Pocophone F1, as well as for standard 64-bit desktop and laptop computers. It offers a choice of two open-source graphical user interfaces for mobile and touch-based devices: Phosh (originally developed by Purism) and Plasma Mobile (developed by the KDE community). Mobian provides stable releases built from Debian "Stable", as well as unsupported weekly builds based on Debian's "Testing" branch.
The Mobian (https://www.mobian.org/) project aims to bring Debian to mobile devices. Over time, the idea is to minimize the Mobian specific pieces by “upstreaming” customization to the original projects. It is maintained by 2 distinct (but overlapping) teams:
- The Mobian team (https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Mobian) is responsible for maintaining downstream packages (containing non-upstreamable patches and/or not ready for inclusion into Debian) and non-packaging tasks, such as image generation and distribution
- The DebianOnMobile team (https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianOnMobile) maintains packages which are already part of the Debian archive.
Installation
For a list of supported devices, along with installation instructions for each one, see Supported Devices (https://wiki.debian.org/Mobian/Devices).
Mobian images can either be built locally following instructions in the README of mobian-recipes (https://salsa.debian.org/Mobian-team/mobian-recipes) (please note, that will require internet connection for downloading needed Debian packages, plus enough memory and available disk space, therefore flat internet connection and powerful PC are recommended for building images), either official Mobian images can be downloaded from https://images.mobian-project.org/. In the latter case, images' signature can be verified using the procedure described in Mobian/FAQ#How may I check Mobian images' signature? (https://wiki.debian.org/Mobian/FAQ#How_may_I_check_Mobian_images.27_signature.3F).
